Plates Restaurant

London

Hospitality

Plates’ design mirrors its plant-based philosophy through a calm, cocooning and tactile interior. The intimate 25-cover dining room uses soft lighting, muted tones and a palette drawn entirely from natural pigments to create an earthy, restorative atmosphere amid the bustle of Old Street. Sustainability underpins every design decision, with a strong emphasis on local craftsmanship, environmentally responsible materials and repurposing. A key feature is the handcrafted chef’s counter and bar encircling the open kitchen, made from repurposed felled London trees, which creates an immersive, interactive dining experience. Taj Mahal stone tables, recycled linen curtains, and natural plaster incorporating buckwheat and hemp add warmth, texture and material honesty throughout the space.

Subtle artistic elements – including a dried seaweed installation and handmade aluminium flower-shaped lights reference botanical forms and reinforce the restaurant’s connection to the natural world. Together, these elements create a refined yet grounded interior that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to nature.
